Tempe, a city of 160,000, is the home of Arizona State University, and it features many of the things you would expect in a college town.

First and foremost are educational and cultural events. ASU offers many courses and seminars that are of interest to the general public. And ASU originates (or participates in) many high technology projects. Many electronic, software, and Internet-based start-up companies were spun-out from ASU, and are located within a few miles of campus. Recently, ASU has been the driver of many Bio-Technology initiatives, such as SkySong.

The "main drag" in Tempe is Mill Avenue, just west of the ASU campus. Mill Avenue features a number of excellent restaurants and night clubs, many catering to the college crowd. Mill Avenue is also home to Tempe's Spring and Fall Art Festivals, and hosts the Annual Block Party every New Year's Eve.

There's plenty of recreational opportunities in Tempe. For example, Rio Salado Golf Course (adjacent to the ASU campus) offers excellent golf at low prices. And Tempe Town Lake, located just south of the ASU campus, offers boating, fishing and other water sports.

There's a wide variety of single family homes, townhomes, and condos in Tempe. A number of new high rise condos are being developed near Town Lake. For a more suburban experience, The Lakes is an older community that features 52 acres of waterways. Homes at The Lakes start at $200K.
