Mesa / Overview and Homes
Mesa, with a population of 450,000, is the 3rd largest city in Arizona (after Phoenix and Tucson). Surrounded by Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, and Apache Junction, Mesa is at the very heart of the East Valley, and conveniently located near all major freeways and Saguaro Lake. And, like most large cities, there's lots to do in Mesa, and lots of different places to live.
Downtown Mesa is a square mile of shopping, restaurants, and venues for all kinds of events. For example, the Mesa Arts Center, with over 200,000 square feet of floorspace, is the largest performing art / visual art / art education facility in the state (and it recently was renovated at a cost of $90 Million).
Looking for a beautiful place to wander around, while learning all about the Sonoran Desert? If so, the Arizona - Sonora Desert Museum is the place to go. It features wonderful displays of desert animal and plant life, and is consistently named as one of the top ten zoological museums / parks in the world.
Is Spring Training Baseball your thing? If so, Mesa has the Chicago Cubs (and they have a huge following in the Phoenix Metroplex), the San Diego Padres, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
A major event in the Mesa area is the Arizona Renaissance Festival, which runs from mid-February to early April every year. It features amusements, theatre, a circus, lots of food, and an arts and crafts fair, all with a "Medieval" flair.
Historically, Mesa has been an industrial center, and companies like Boeing and TRW have major facilities there. Banner Health is the largest employer in Mesa. And (News Flash!) Williams Gateway Airport is poised to begin commercial flights within 1-2 years, which will make it an attractive alternative to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport for people living in the East Valley.
Alta Mesa Homes, Boulder Mountain Homes, Lago Estancia, Las Sendas, and Red Mountain Ranch offer a wide variety of housing choices in Mesa.
