In the summer of 1968 Jay moved with his family to Boston. After completing high school in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Jay received his BS degree in business administration from Bentley College in Boston. He returned to Minnesota to run the family business after completing his studies.
For 27 years he owned and operated Positive Stroke Art Supply in Wayzata and Framing Concepts in Brooklyn Park. After closing those businesses, Jay began investing in his own properties. Discovering he had a passion for real estate led him to pursuing his own real estate license.

Jay currently resides in Plymouth with his wife and two children. Both children attend the Wayzata schools and are products of its excellent education system.
